The Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg offers fellowships of varying type and duration for individual scientists and scholars:

  • Regular fellowships for academics whose PhD dates back more than five years,
  • Junior fellowships for academics who obtained their PhD within the past five years,
  • Associate Junior Fellowships (non-residential) are open to early career researchers from the region and available here,
  • Artist in Residence fellowships are available to artists with a significant interest in the sciences. Please apply here.

Conditions

The Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg awards residential fellowships to exceptionally qualified researchers. Fellowships may last 3 to 10 months. Residency at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg is mandatory throughout the entire fellowship. The exact financial conditions and timeframe are subject to individual agreement. The HWK encourages and supports researchers who wish to take up fellowships accompanied by child(ren), spouse, or partner. Review the Application Guidelines for full conditions.

Eligibility

Applications may be submitted for all academic disciplines. Applicants intending to do experimental or laboratory work are welcome, but must enclose confirmation of access to research infrastructure at a regional academic institution. Review the Application Guidelines for full eligibility criteria.
