Autumn School "Neurocognition: Foundations and Clinical Processes" at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg

From September 20 to 24, 2010, the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg will host the Autumn School "Neurocognition: Foundations and Clinical Processes".

Prof. Dr. Dr. Onur Güntürkün from the Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum is the organiser of this event which is part of an international network for PhD-students funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The 19 participants of the Autumn School are PhD-students from Germany, Turkey, and Italy. The universities of Bochum (Germany), Izmir (Turkey), Trento and Padua (Italy) participate in this international network supporting research and career pathways for young scientists. The network on Neurocognition arranges an Autumn School every year. In the past two years, this event took place at Montegrotto (Italy) and at Izmir.

The program of the Autumn School comprises presentations of the PhD-students as well as talks of renowned senior scientists from Germany and other European countries. In addition, extensive discussions of junior and senior scientists, poster sessions, and an evening lecture are part of the meeting. The program encompasses a broad range of topics from all areas of neuroscience, including philosophical problems, methodological aspects, and clinical applications. International experts like Kenneth Hugdahl, University of Bergen (Norway) or Isabell George, University of Rennes (France) will present their groundbreaking work during that week at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg. In addition, Prof. Güntürkün will give the central evening lecture on "Sex Differences in Brain and Cognition: Myths and Facts”. The participants get the chance to discuss and exchange ideas with internationally renowned experts in their field, including the planning of career strategies based on their own research areas.

This international network of PhD-students connects ideally with the neuroscientific topics represented in the field of Neurosciences and Cognitive Sciences at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg. It is also a great example for the international support of excellent young scientists and for the creation of interdisciplinary networks in a highly dynamic field within the neurosciences. The Autumn School is held in English.
