Up to 45% of the elderly population suffer from chronic tinnitus, the phantom perception of sound often perceived as ringing, whistling, buzzing, or hissing “in the ear” absent external stimulation.

Chronic tinnitus significantly impacts quality of life and mental health as it comes with increased distress, fatigue, depression, and anxiety, and may also result in problems with sleeping and concentration. Despite recent advances in clinical as well as scientific knowledge, there is currently no effective treatment or cure for tinnitus.

This workshop will give an overview of the latest findings and current challenges in tinnitus research and will cover basic research, diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions such as neuromodulation, hearing aids, or cochlear implants. We will also establish a clinical roundtable with researchers from different fields. The goal is to discuss future developments in the diagnosis and treatment of tinnitus and to find inspiration for future ideas to improve knowledge of the neural mechanisms and pathological development of tinnitus.
