Elucidating the cognitive and neural mechanisms of human consciousness remains one of the greatest scientific challenges of the 21st century. We would like to invite you to join us in this endeavor and to participate in the international workshop on the “Neuro-cognitive mechanisms of conscious and unconscious visual perception”. This three-day meeting is organized by the German Research Network on consciousness research and is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (HWK). This workshop will bring together leading researchers from different fields of human consciousness research such as visual masking, attention, subliminal priming and impairments of awareness following brain-damage using different experimental approaches and methodologies (e.g., behavioral, EEG, TMS, neuroimaging, single cell recordings). There is a workshop fee of 100 € (reduced fee of 60 € for partially employed participants such as graduate and doctoral students), which covers workshop material, shuttle service from the hotel to the conference site, daily lunch, snacks and drinks during the conference breaks and a complimentary workshop dinner. Note, however, that costs for accommodation are not included in the workshop fees.

An application form for workshop participation can be downloaded below. Filled and signed forms should be faxed to Marion Daniel at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (+49 (0) 4221 9160-13119). If there are more applications than available places, the workshop committee not only takes the time of submitting your application into account, but also strives to consider as many countries and institutions as possible when reviewing the applications. When your application is accepted, you will receive a registration form from the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg by Email with further instruction regarding transfer of conference fees and hotel reservations. (Application deadline December 31, 2009)

If you intend to present a poster, please submit its title and an abstract (not longer than 250 words) directly to the workshop organizers by Email (markus.kiefer[at]uni-ulm.de) simultaneously with your workshop application. Poster abstracts will be reviewed and accepted depending on their quality and significance to the field.
