ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
This is an exploratory workshop. It addresses the two main concerns of our current phase of Fiction Meets Science: our research on the global dimensions of science in science narratives, as well as our research on varieties of science narrative across genres, media and societal spheres. The workshop will make a selection of different kinds of science narratives – all produced in the context of policy advice for international cooperation and development – the focus of interdisciplinary reflection. We will examine the ways in which scientific data is shaped into narratives whose aim is to guide political decisions. We will look at the specific qualities of the narratives produced in these processes, as well as at the various factors and players which drive and shape them. Combining a range of conceptual, structural and contextual approaches, the aim of the workshop is to probe how discursive practice – both scientific and narrative – and interdisciplinary conceptual and methodological reflection can be brought together to create new research perspectives.
