The goal of this workshop is to have an open discussion on the impact of Fokker-Planck equation based approaches on turbulence modeling and simulation. Leading scientists will present the spectrum of possibilities to describe turbulence dynamics on this basis, and to use such models for turbulent flow predictions. The workshop offers plenty of opportunities for in-depth discussions of details, differences and similarities, advantages and disadvantages of various approaches. Projections of desired future developments will be made with focus on a comprehensive understanding of the stochastic nature of turbulence and the ability to accurately predict real turbulent flows.
Please pay attention - we plan a lot of time for discussions and we ask everyone to bring along own ideas on where are challenges of CFD and how this can be improved, in particular we try to focus on using stochastic processes to improve CFD, but other ideas are welcome, too. To have an open discussion atmosphere we will limit the number of participants to about 30 persons.
Extended talks 60 min including 30 min discussion about ideas how to improve CFD
Other talks 20 min + 10 min discussion
The workshop is being organized by Joachim Peinke (University of Oldenburg) and Stefan Heinz (University of Wyoming and currently Fellow at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg - Institute for Advanced Study, HWK). The HWK, located in Delmenhorst, a medium-size city between Oldenburg and Bremen, will be the workshop venue. While Joachim Peinke and Stefan Heinz are the persons to contact with all question regarding workshop contents, the HWK team with Sabine Friedrichs (sfriedrichs[at]h-w-k.de) and Wolfgang Stenzel (wstenzel[at]h-w-k.de) will take care of organizational matters.
Financial support from the Verein der Freunde und Förderer des Hanse-Wissenschaftskollegs in Delmenhorst e.V. (Friends and Sponsors of the HWK) is gratefully acknowledged.
