SonaME – Sonification of Mental Experience represents the culmination of my 20-year exploration into translating human cognition, emotions, and subconscious processes into meaningful sound. Throughout my extensive career as a composer and, since 2010, as a certified music psychotherapist, I've consistently explored how music mirrors and influences complex mental and bodily states. Between 2020 and 2024, at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), I significantly expanded my expertise by pioneering sonification methods to translate intricate air traffic control data into intuitive auditory signals, enhancing human-machine interaction.
Building on this foundation, since January 2025, I've guided the Bachelor thesis SonaTI – Sonification of Training Invariance, exploring rhythmic, harmonic, dynamic, and spatial audio representations of neural network behaviors. This ongoing project demonstrates sound's capability to depict complex artificial intelligence processes, informing my approach to human brain data.
With SonaME, my next step involves close collaboration with neuroscientists, clinicians, and cognitive researchers to identify specific brain data (EEG, MEG, fMRI) suited for sonification. The project synthesizes artistic innovation, therapeutic insights, and rigorous neuroscientific methods, constructing an interdisciplinary auditory bridge between neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, therapeutic interventions, and music composition.
