The workshop, "Mapping the Health of Coastal Environments to Public Health (MHCEPH)," addresses the
vital connection between the health of coastal ecosystems and human health. Coastal environments
provide beautiful scenery, tranquility, and peace, all essential for human well-being. They are critical
ecosystems that support diverse biological and economic activities but are increasingly threatened by
human pollution. Coastal water pollution negatively impacts ecological health, subsequently affecting
public health. However, there is a shortage of studies that directly link coastal water quality to biodiversity
loss and human health outcomes. The workshop aims to achieve two main objectives: (1) to discuss the
ecological impacts of pollutants on coastal ecosystems and (2) to explore how these pollutants affect the
health of coastal communities. It will gather scholars from multiple disciplines to identify research gaps and
propose future investigations that connect the health of coastal ecosystems to public health outcomes.
Participants will deepen their understanding of these issues and work towards translating research into
practical solutions. This initiative will result in substantial advancements in knowledge dissemination
through the publication of research findings, as the workshop has the potential to culminate in a special
issue for esteemed journals focusing on environmental biodiversity and human health.
