Abstract

Coastal environments offer stunning scenery, tranquillity, and a sense of peace, all of which are essential for human health. These ecosystems are vital, supporting a wide range of biological and economic activities; however, they are increasingly threatened by human-caused pollution. Coastal water pollution has detrimental effects on ecological health, which in turn impacts public health. The intricate connection between coastal environments and human well-being has become increasingly evident as pollution and environmental degradation threaten both natural habitats and the communities that depend on them. Recognizing the urgent need to bridge the gap between environmental science and public health, an upcoming workshop aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative research. The seminar titled "Mapping the Health of Coastal Environments to Public Health (MHCEPH)" addresses the crucial link between the health of coastal ecosystems and the well-being of human populations. This workshop seeks to achieve two primary objectives:

-\tTo examine the ecological consequences of pollutants on coastal ecosystems.

-\tTo investigate how these pollutants influence the health of coastal communities.

The workshop will bring together scholars from various disciplines to identify research gaps and propose future investigations that link the health of coastal ecosystems to public health outcomes. Participants will enhance their understanding of these interconnected issues and strive to translate research findings into actionable solutions. This initiative is poised to significantly advance knowledge dissemination through the publication of research outcomes, with the workshop potentially leading to a special issue for esteemed journals focusing on environmental biodiversity and human health.
