Defender of the deep - Samantha Joye

Samantha Joye, an oceanographer at the University of Georgia and former Fellow of the HWK, has been doing research in the Gulf of mexico area and is investigating in protecting it like no one else.

She and other scientists are convinced that the ecosystem is strongly desturbed still and that the oil is not gone.

Joye was the first scientist to track an underwater "plume of oil". She is trying to find out what liquid methane is doing to the deep ocean, how fast the oil is being degraded and what's happening to the oxygen.
